ATLANTA, GA — July 10, 2025 — Thanks to the generous support of The BlackRock Foundation, Kia Motors of Georgia, and the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Foundation, each of Georgia’s 22 technical colleges has received a $20,000 grant to support the Gretchen K. Corbin Last Mile Fund.
The Last Mile Fund was created to help students who are close to completing their education but face unexpected financial hurdles that threaten to derail their graduation. Whether it’s assistance with tuition, fees, or books, the fund ensures that no student is forced to give up on their dreams due to financial hardship.
“With contributions from The BlackRock Foundation, Kia Motors of Georgia, and the TCSG Foundation, we’re proud to provide this crucial support to students in need,” said Cory Thompson, Executive Director of the TCSG Foundation. “This investment helps students cross the finish line—and ultimately changes lives.”
The Gretchen K. Corbin Last Mile Fund directly addresses the needs of students who often fall through the cracks—those who have done everything right but need a little help to graduate. Over 70% of credit students enrolled at TCSG colleges are considered economically disadvantaged, making this support not only impactful but essential.
To date, 99% of students who have received support from the Last Mile Fund have remained enrolled and/or earned their credential. By removing financial barriers at a critical point in their academic journey, this initiative significantly boosts retention and graduation rates across the state.
“This partnership represents a powerful commitment to student success and workforce development,” said Stuart Countess, Kia Georgia President and CEO. “We’re honored to be part of a solution that helps deserving students reach their full potential.”
The TCSG Foundation expresses its deepest gratitude to The BlackRock Foundation and Kia Motors of Georgia for their partnership and shared commitment to student success.
